What is the purpose of a social enterprise?
Written by Lia Arrieta
A social enterprises’ purpose is to make sure their business achieves a social or environmental mission. This type of enterprise makes sure that around 50% of profits are invested on their goal of supporting a social mission rather than their payout to shareholders (TheGoodTrade). Social enterprises are different from business enterprises because they critically analyze how they are solving social and environmental problems and by creating positive change they spread their impact not solely to one area but to multiple. Some examples of issues that social enterprises focus on include education, health, housing, food, and technology. The Social Enterprise Certification differs from its competitors since it is more affordable and looks at the purpose and the impact they are generating in the whole supply chain, and not just in some parts.
